What happens when the system meant to protect you erases you instead?
That question is at the heart of my story, and it’s why I created The Broken Gavel Podcast. In my very first full episode, I share how what should have been a straightforward divorce turned into one of the most devastating betrayals of my life — and how that moment sparked a movement.
This isn’t just a podcast about law. It’s about what happens after the gavel drops, when the lawyers go home, the courtroom is quiet, and you’re left to carry the weight of a verdict you never saw coming.

The Day Everything Changed
I walked into an attorney’s office believing I was hiring someone to help me through a difficult but manageable divorce. We had no children. It was supposed to be simple.
But months later, without warning, I discovered that my marriage had been legally dissolved, finalized without a hearing, without a settlement conference, and without me even stepping foot in the courtroom.
I found out not from my attorney, not from a judge, but by scrolling the county clerk’s website on my phone. There, in black and white, were the words: Final Judgment and Decree.
That moment shattered something inside me.
What do you do when your own attorney, the person you hired to protect your rights — erases you from your own case?
When Silence Becomes Injustice
What I learned that day is that injustice doesn’t always arrive with shouting, arguments, or slammed doors. Sometimes it’s quiet.
It’s the email that never comes.
The phone call that never gets returned.
The silence that leaves you outside of decisions that shape your life.
In my county, once you hire an attorney, the court communicates directly with them, not you. That means it was her job to keep me informed. And she didn’t.
Her silence became my devastation.
From Betrayal to Voice
For a long time, I stayed silent. Partly because I didn’t know where to begin, and partly because I saw how the system treats people who dare to speak up.
But silence protects the wrong people. It protects those who abuse their power.
I realized that if I didn’t tell this story, not only would I carry it alone — but someone else would eventually go through the same thing. And maybe they wouldn’t survive it.
So, I created The Broken Gavel.
Not as a legal textbook. Not as a revenge story. But as a place where lived experience meets legal truth. A space for real conversations about betrayal, resilience, and what it means to reclaim your voice after being failed by the system.
The Bigger Picture
My story is only one example, but the broken gavel is a symbol for so many others.
How many people have been erased by silence?
How many have trusted the wrong person, only to discover the system wasn’t built to protect them?
And how many more will stay quiet, because they don’t believe their story matters?
That’s why The Broken Gavel Podcast exists: to talk about the betrayal, challenge silence, and amplify the voices of those who’ve been dismissed, disrespected, or broken by power.
